DIABETES AND DENTAL HEALTH

At any age across the life span diabetes can arise in individuals. People with diabetes are more prone to dental problems. The tinier bacteria living in the mouth (especially gums) is the reason for periodontal disease which is  a chronic, inflammatory disease which results in destruction of your gums, and also all the tissues holding your teeth. Nearly 25% of people with diabetes are affected by periodontal disease, the most common dental disease. It is also susceptible in especially with increasing age, poor blood sugar control. Higher risk for gum problems occurs in people with diabetes because of poor blood sugar control.

As with all infections, serious gum diseases may cause blood sugar to rise. This makes diabetes harder to control because you are more susceptible to infections and are less able to fight the bacteria invading the gums. The dentists review the patient’s medical history and evaluate them for oral signs and symptoms of controlled diabetes, which may be common. Oral manifestations of uncontrolled diabetes can include xerostomia, burning sensation in the mouth, impaired/delayed wound healing, severity of infections, secondary infection with candidiasis; parotid salivary gland enlargement; gingivitis and/or periodontitis etc.

The irreversibility in dental stream can reversed by a one-step novel approach in the event of 6th Annual Congress on Dentistry and Dental Medicine scheduled at Bucharest, Romania at November 22-23, 2018, adding feathers to your cap. This is an integrated approach towards the futuristic dentistry to make dental researches and the researchers to be known. Advancements in dental research, including genetic engineering, the discovery of links between oral and systemic diseases, the development of salivary diagnostics and the continued development of new materials and techniques, make dentistry an exciting, challenging and rewarding profession.
