Good oral
health is critical for overall health, and strives to ensure dental treatment
to meet the guidelines established. It's increasingly common to hear that oral
health is vital for overall health. It has been reported by Delta Dental
that there is a link between oral health and heart disease. If people possess
gum diseases in a moderate/advanced stage, then they are at a greater risk for
heart disease. It has been
that suspected that the spread of bacteria from the mouth to other parts
of your body through the blood stream is the interlink between oral health and
heart disease. Bacteria found in infected gum
tissue reach the heart, breaking down the barrier between the gums and the
underlying connective tissue,
attaching them to any of the damaged area resulting in inflammation. These bacteria can enter the bloodstream during normal chewing or
brushing, and move to other parts of the circulatory system, contributing to
the formation of cardiovascular diseases such as an infection of the inner lining of the heart
(endocarditis) and also other cardiovascular conditions such as clogged
arteries (atherosclerosis) and strokes. Dentists do agree that there are many
acceptable reasons behind the intertwining of dental health and heart health.
The American Heart Association says, “Although the findings indicate a
strong link between gum disease and heart disease, it’s still unclear whether
one actually causes the other.” The risk factors of two conditions are same,
including smoking, poor nutrition diabetes etc. It is suspected by researchers,
that infection/inflammation caused by periodontal disease may be responsible
for the link between the oral health and the heart diseases. Dentistry Medicine 2018 scheduled in the month of November 22-23, 2018 at Bucharest, Romania, paves the way to find such unresolved truths in the stream of
